Whilst I’ve always been interested in general sewing - clothes for my various dolls as a child, and later for myself - I really only focused on textile art during the early 2000’s.
I am largely self-taught, although I have taken workshops to develop my understanding of using particular tools and techniques such as soldering iron, materials such as Tyvek, organza and dyeing techniques such as breakdown. I dye, paint and print on recycled sheeting and paper. I take a lot of photos both on travels and home. These are the basis of inspiration but never used exclusively. I use a mix of media, collage and stitch to build layers to achieve the results I want. I rarely plan a piece of work, preferring to react intuitively - responding to the marks or colours on the piece until I am pleased with the outcome. |
