My recent work has expressed positive energy, using vibrant colours. The dense and elaborate stitching creates a rich surface. I often include words in the stitching – legible but discreet – offering further possible interpretations.
I occasionally paint or stencil fabric, but am generally happy to use good quality commercial fabrics, cotton and silk, often recycled. Beginning with loose sketches, I piece, collage, or appliqué, developing the design as I work. Some work is influenced by archaeology or by myths, and occasional light-hearted pieces use the visual language of folk arts. I hope the viewer enjoys the look of my work, and finds elements to think and wonder about too. |
