I am a stitcher, it is in my DNA passed down though at least four generations.
My work is an eclectic mix of techniques and subjects but my love of blue and white wins out and I eventually return to an indigo vat brewing away in the garden. Inspiration strikes at any time and might be nature based, architectural, a song lyric or a challenge theme I take a fancy to. My trouble is too many ideas and not enough time. Deadlines are good for me. Hand stitching is a favourite technique. I love the rippling texture of the final stitched fabric as well as the meditative nature of the actual process. I use mainly vintage linen and cotton fabrics, old sheets and tablecloths and as I tell my grandsons I have been saving the planet my whole life. I have been lucky enough to win a first and a second Price at the Festival of Quilts and a first prize at Quilts UK. website: www.slowstitchsylvia.co.uk |
