In the last couple of years, I have become addicted to hand stitching! Experimentation is at the heart of my artwork: taking an idea and seeing where it leads me. Painting, collage and stitching all working together.
I started with watercolour painting gradually, moving into mixed media. My Mother taught my sisters and I how to sew and in our teenage years, we made our own clothes. So, attending a Cas Holmes textile workshop in 2012 opened a new opportunity to incorporate paint and stitch. Initially, I concentrated on stitching with my old sewing machine mainly into paintings on paper. Now, I've become addicted to hand stitching on painted fabrics for framed work but also, making small artist books. I see stitching as a fascinating mark making process. Living in the Dorset countryside, I have endless inspiration in nature. But I like to work on a project exploring the subject by drawing, painting, printing, stitching …Suddenly, the way forward becomes clear. website: https://dorsetvisualarts.org/artist-details/wendy-jump |
